José Antonio SISTIAGA (1932–2023) Untitled, 1959 Indian ink on paper. 64 x 48 cm Provenance: Artist’s collection, by inheritance. A certificate of authenticity from the Art Sistiaga estate may be provided to the buyer. The late 1960s marked the artist’s Parisian period. To fill the cultural void in the Basque Country at that time, Sistiaga moved to Paris and quickly succeeded in making a living from his art. He then began creating compositions in India ink. Louis Conte (John Craven) purchased about thirty works similar to ours from him and exhibited them at his gallery at 5 Rue des Beaux-Arts.
