CIBOURE - Vilotte period - Lot 508
CIBOURE - Vilotte period SMALL pear-shaped VASE in enameled stoneware with Neo-Greek decoration of a dancer with tambourine on a black background. Stamped mark on reverse. Circa 1930 Height: 10.5 cm Exhibition: La poterie d'art de Ciboure 1919-1925, Bayonne, Musée Basque Bibliography: La poterie d'art de Ciboure 1919-1925, Bayonne, Musée Basque, ed. le Festin, n.d. Very similar model reproduced on p. 79. A model to be compared with the work of decorative painter Pierre Almès (1880-1944), who worked under the direction of Etienne Vilotte from 1924. With a style that Severine Berger describes as "quite firm (...) with well-accentuated movements that nevertheless remain harmonious (...), most of Pierre Almès's work is unsigned. On the other hand, we can link this piece to the painter's decorative registers with his productions from 1925 in the Vallauris region, and in particular from the BACS workshop, some of whose pieces are reproduced in Edgar Pelichet's La céramique Art Déco.
