HERVIEUX : Nouveau traité des serins de Canarie Prudhomme, 1 - Lot 72
HERVIEUX : Nouveau traité des serins de Canarie Prudhomme, 1713. In-12 contemporary brown calf, spine ribbed and decorated (headbands and corners worn). 1 plate out of text and 1 double plate of music. Old annotations in the margins. This work was first published in 1705. It is at the end of the 15th century that the green Canary serin was introduced to the nobility, announcing the birth of a passion: the breeding of birds in cages. They were all the more attractive as they sang well. Excellent imitators, it was recommended to play musical tunes to teach them. The "serinettes" were also invented, music boxes used by their owners to teach the birds new songs. The 4 music boards contain about 15 tunes to play on a flageolet.
