On July 12, Côte Basque Enchères will have the pleasure of closing a series of sales dedicated to the collection of the renowned antique dealer and gallery owner Yves Gastou.
A visionary in his choices, Yves Gastou discovered and brought to the fore designers recognized in the world of decorative arts. A passionate and eclectic collector, his electric eye has landed on an incredibly varied number of pieces and objects, as this sale perfectly illustrates.
A lover of the Basque country and an avid bargain hunter, Yves Gastou found unequalled joy in garage sales and flea markets. He loved strolling through them in search of a treasure, a piece of history or an object of curiosity.
The 180 or so lots offered at this auction reflect his intimate passions and eclectic taste. Surprising and exceptional, these pieces bear witness to the man who chose them and assembled them with care.
More than just a bargain hunter, this sale highlights Yves Gastou as a passer of history. The history of Biarritz and its evolution through the ages occupied an important place in his collections. And it was through this selection of skilfully-educated photographs that L'Antiquaire du futur enjoyed, in his spare time, delving into the past.
